The Essential Foods Plan

2 - 2 - 3 - 3- 6+

Each day, you can manage your weight by giving your body the Essential Foods that it craves. Your mind knows that your metabolism depends on proper fuel consisting of vitamins, minerals and energy. The Essential Foods Plan delivers those, satisfying the mind and body and allowing your metabolism to function as it should. Every day, simply be sure to eat:
  • 2 servings of fruits
  • 2 servings of milks & dairy
  • 3 servings of protein
  • 3 servings of whole grains
  • 6 or more servings of vegetables.
Serving Sizes

No need to stress about exact measurements or food weight. Remember, a weight management system is only effective if it is simple and easy to follow. The SLMsmart Essential Foods plan is just that. Count a serving as about one cup, or a handful. If the amount of peas on your plate look like a good handful, count it as a vegetable serving. If your orange slices could fit into a cup, count it as one of your two daily fruit servings. One filet of salmon, one cup of milk, one slice of bread... use your best judgement and consider each of these a single serving.

Non-Essential Foods

These are the foods to avoid if slimming down and losing weight is your immediate goal:

  • Salty snacks (chips, pretzels, crackers, etc.)

  • "Sports Drinks"
  • Smoothies
  • Fancy coffees
